Laureano Quant

Baritone

Laureano Quant is lauded for a voice that is “robust and full of swagger” (San Francisco Chronicle). In the 2026-27 season, he makes role and company debuts with Utah Opera as the title role of Don Giovanni and Nashville Opera as the Count in Le nozze di Figaro. He returns to Escamillo in Carmen with North Carolina Opera and to Chicago Opera Theater as the Husband (Father) in Glass' The Juniper Tree. He returns of Handel’s Messiah with Camerata Chicago and sings Mozart’s Requiem with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra and, in his home country, he returns to the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia in a gala concert in which he sang beloved arias of Mozart, Massenet, and Bizet. Future seasons she him joining the roster of the Metropolitan Opera.

Last season he returned to Madison Opera as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte and Chicago Opera Theater as Slender in Salieri’s Falstaff. He made debuts Opera Maine as Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette and with Dallas Opera as Zuniga in Carmen. He sang the orchestral arrangement of Schubert’s Der Erlkönig with the National Arts Center Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada, joined Opera Edwardsville for a concert of opera favorites, returned to Wolf Trap Opera for a NextGen recital curated by Renée Fleming, and joined Opera Maine in recital.

The Colombian baritone recently made his European debut as Bill in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny with Staatsoper Stuttgart. He also sang El Payador in Maria de Buenos Aires with Madison Opera and Escamillo in Carmen and Schaunard in La bohème with Wolf Trap Opera. He is a recently departed member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Ryan Opera Center at which he sang Le Dancaïre—while also being responsible for Escamillo—in Carmen, Comte de Lerma in Don Carlos, and Stařek in Jenůfa—along with covering Man in the Bar in Champion. Elsewhere, he has sung Betto in Gianni Schicchi with Ópera de Colombia, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream as well as the Captain and Prince Ragonsky in Candide with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotà, and Escamillo in Le tragedie de Carmen and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte with The Opera Next Door.

He has sung Fauré’s Requiem and Bacalov’s Missa Tango with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotà as well as Mozart’s Requiem with the Festival de Música Sacra de Popayán. He has also portrayed Jesus in Bach’s St. John Passion at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph in New York and sang his first performances of Handel’s Messiah with Camerata Chicago.

Mr. Quant obtained his Master of Musical Arts from Yale University, and while there sang Belcore in L’elisir d’amore. He also holds a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music, at which he sang Zurga in Les pêcheurs de perles, Figaro in I due Figaro, and Mr. Maguire in Picker’s Emmeline.

He was named the winner of the Art Song Prize at the Concours Musical International de Montréal in 2025. He is also a Classical Voice Fellow of the Luminarts Foundation and recipient of the Phyllis Curtin Career Entry Prize from Yale University. He was the winner of the Online Viewer’s Choice Award at Houston Grand Opera’s Concert of Arias and first prize winner for the Premio de Canto Ciudad de Bogotà. He has also received second prize in regions of the Metropolitan Opera’s Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition.

He was recently a Vocal Fellow of the Steans Music Institute of the Ravinia Festival and received further training at the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera and the SongStudio at Carnegie Hall. He obtained a Bachelor of Music, double-majoring in composition and vocal performance from Pontifica Universidad Javeriana.
